David Russell
I have
been studying art at Ballyclare High School for the past seven years, most recently having taken the
subject at GCSE and A Level. I achieved an A* grade at GCSE and an A grade at A Level. Over this time
I have been developing my style, a process which is ongoing. This year I produced an 8ft by 4ft
self-portrait in charcoal for my A Level project, an endeavour that both challenged and helped my ability.
This year I have also drawn caricatures of teachers in the school for a calendar produced by the Young
Enterprise company. At the end of term when we displayed our work in exhibition form in the school gym,
one teacher bought three pieces of work that I had produced. Afterwards, I was commissioned to create
a portrait for another teacher. I also have a great love for writing and have been fortunate in having
two short stories published, and twenty one poems published in separate anthologies. My interest in poetry
has grown especially over the past two years having taken English Literature for A Level. This year I
am going to Queen's University to study English, and there I hope to develop my style of writing and
my appreciation for literature. I now hope to continue expanding my artistic style and enjoy the challenge
of every piece of work that I produce.
